Richard Jones

Richard’s career at American Business Machines is deeply rooted in both family and service. He quite literally grew up within the company, beginning his journey at ABM as an office boy at just 16 years old, learning the business from the ground up while following in his father’s footsteps. From an early age, Richard gained firsthand exposure to the values, work ethic, and customer-focused mindset that shaped ABM’s reputation.

His professional path was briefly paused when he was called to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable service, Richard returned home in 1971 and rejoined American Business Machines with a renewed sense of purpose and responsibility. He committed himself to carrying forward the legacy his father had built, grounded in the principle of total customer satisfaction.

Throughout his career, Richard worked tirelessly to strengthen the company, guiding it through changing technologies, evolving customer needs, and shifting business landscapes. His leadership focused on stability, integrity, and long-term relationships, ensuring ABM remained a trusted partner to its customers and a strong employer for its people. His dedication was not only to the success of the business in his own time, but to preserving and positioning it for the future, with the hope of seeing a third generation continue the company’s legacy.

Richard’s contributions laid a durable foundation that continues to influence American Business Machines today, reflecting a lifetime of commitment to service, family, and enduring business values.
